I always thought a cool idea would be a anime styled show structured with arcs. This would never get to the point where Sonic himself feels worthless but the franchise in general just can't seem to go five minutes without throwing him into any context even when the story would benefit more without him always being around. He can afford to miss an episode here and there, if it means giving the equally interesting characters around him times to shine perhaps even with small arcs of their very own like Archie's Sonic Universe line, which I honestly preferred much more over the mainline comics. The IDW comics do the same thing but just with a more grounded scope compared to X's Metarex saga either or makes for a good reference point conceptually, but one thing that I think a new Sonic show (or Sonic anything, period) should do is not spend every waking minute on Sonic.
